Bolivian President Evo Morales tied his socialist agenda to the "Star Wars" craze surrounding the release of the “The Force Awakens" with a new political ad featuring the leader wielding a lightsaber.

Supporters of an amendment which would allow Morales to possibly stay in office until 2025 are using a doctored trailer of the successful "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" film to campaign for the upcoming referendum. The video appeared on the Facebook page of Sí Bolivia, the president's campaign.

Titled "Bolivian Wars: El Despertar del Sí" (The Awakening of Yes), the video depicts Morales in the role of Finn, one of film's heroes, using the light side of the Force, while the former President Gonzalo Sanchez de Lozada and former defense minister Carlos Sanchez are in line with the dark side of the Force.

The trailer encourages Bolivians to vote "yes" on the Feb. 21 referendum and say "no" to the dark side, which, according the campaign, means poverty and the politics of the past.

Morales' party is going all out to get voters on their side. Telesurtv reports that Bolivia’s ruling party, Movement Toward Socialism, has even decided to go door-to-door to promote the referendum.

As previously reported, the constitutional change would let presidents run for three consecutive five-year terms. As of now, Bolivian presidents can serve only two consecutive terms.

Morales, who has been in power since 2005, said he does not plan on being president for life. "I'm not trying to stay in power forever," he said.

With an approval ratings of over 70 percent, Morales is one of the most popular leaders in the world. “If the people say no in the referendum on this law, I’ll still be happy,” he said.

The next presidential elections are set to take place in 2019. If Morales is allowed to run again and actually wins, the 56-year-old leader would become the longest-serving democratic president in the history of Bolivia.
