Formula One superstar Michael Schumacher recently turned 47 on Jan. 3, Sunday. And his loyal fans celebrated his birthday by tweeting their messages and wishes along with the hashtags #HappyBirthdayMichaelSchumacher and #KeepFightingMichael. And despite the ongoing media blackout and the uncertainties regarding his current medical condition, his fans have remained hopeful.

As Schumacher celebrated his birthday, its best to commemorate it by looking back at some of his best moments as an F1 driver. One of the greatest drivers to have ever been part of Formula One, Schumacher showed his racing prowess and immense talent only two years into the sport. He is also highly praised for his masterful handling of the road despite the most torrential downpours, Sportskeeda noted.

Schumacher had many great wet-weather drives, but it was the Spanish Grand Prix in 1996 that stood out as one of F1's best in history. It was also his first ever victory with Ferrari, and the rest as they say, is history. In 2006, he took his first retirement, after winning seven of the year's races. But in 2010, Schumacher returned to the sport, driving for Mercedes.

Known for his prodigious driving skills, Schumacher became one of the most loved and well respected F1 personalities who re-popularized Formula One in Germany. He also became an inspiration for one of F1's current best, Sebastian Vettel, whom he also mentored. But after two decades in one of the most dangerous sport, it was the appalling skiing accident in the French Alps that would render Schumacher.

Despite being an experienced skier, Schumacher was placed in a medically induced comatose for months due to the severe brain injuries he sustained during the unfortunate skiing accident at the French Alpine resort of Meribel in December 2013. He is currently undergoing a rehabilitation program at the comforts of his home in Geneva, Switzerland. He is reportedly under the extensive care of 15 medical experts 24/7 in his home, where a highly-secured and state-of-the-art medical suite was custom-built.

Two years after the accident, Schumacher is still fighting for his life. Unfortunately, reports about his progress or health condition remain scarce as his family are understandably reluctant to give away too much information in fear of rumors surrounding his ongoing situation will start to mount, Daily Mirror noted.

While Schumacher is already at home, his long-time manager Sabine Kehm told the media in May that the seven-time F1 world champion was "making progress" but reminded his fans that they "must always keep the seriousness of his injuries in mind." And in spite of costly medical bills, the Schumachers are not giving up the fight.

Meanwhile, Michael Schumacher is indeed one of the greatest Formula One drivers who has a record of 91 race wins under his belt, Zee News reported. And to look back for his top 10 best moments in F1, click here
