Puerto Rican Rapper Jhayco Arrested in Miami on Drug Possession Charges
He is best known for his chart-topping hit DÁKITI and for co-writing and collaborating extensively with Bad Bunny

Puerto Rican rapper and singer Jhayco, best known for his chart-topping hit DÁKITI and for co-writing and collaborating extensively with Bad Bunny, was arrested early Tuesday morning in Miami on drug-related charges, according to jail records.
Authorities say Jhayco, whose real name is Jesús Manuel Nieves Cortés, was booked into the Turner Guilford Knight Correctional Center at around 4:25 a.m. on August 12, 2025. The 32-year-old artist faces charges of cocaine possession and possession of 20 grams or less of cannabis. His bond was set at $3,000.
A Rising Star in the Latin Urban Scene
Jhayco is considered one of the most influential voices in the new wave of Latin trap and reggaeton. Born and raised in Río Piedras, Puerto Rico, he began his career as a songwriter and producer, quickly building a reputation in the industry for crafting infectious hooks and blending reggaeton with trap and R&B influences.
Long before stepping into the spotlight as a solo artist, Jhayco was a behind-the-scenes force for some of the biggest hits in Latin music. He co-wrote and produced multiple tracks for Bad Bunny, including I Like It with Cardi B, No Me Conoce (Remix), and the global smash DÁKITI, which spent weeks atop the Billboard Global 200 and became one of the most streamed songs in Spotify history. His work has earned him multi-platinum certifications and Latin Grammy recognition.
In 2019, he released his debut studio album Famouz, which cemented his status as a solo powerhouse. He followed it with collaborations alongside artists like J Balvin, Anuel AA, Skrillex, and Karol G, as well as his own hit singles such as En Mi Cuarto and Ley Seca. Miami has been a central hub for his career, serving as both a creative base and a launchpad for many of his projects.
Details of the Arrest

The charges he faces are considered felonies under Florida law, but the relatively low bond amount suggests that there were no aggravating circumstances or outstanding warrants. Still, drug possession charges can carry penalties ranging from fines and probation to potential jail time, depending on the outcome of the case and whether the court orders rehabilitation programs.
Possible Impact on His Career
The arrest could have significant implications for Jhayco's ongoing projects, which include international tour dates, festival appearances, and collaborations with global artists. Drug-related arrests often bring contractual and travel complications, particularly for performers with shows scheduled abroad.
So far, neither Jhayco nor his management team have issued an official statement. Local outlets including NBC Miami and Local 10 News are closely following the case as court dates are expected to be set in the coming days.
