Tesla CEO Elon Musk insists Apple is building an electric vehicle, and he is not worried about it.

Musk said Apple is doing a poor job of hiding the fact they are planning on releasing an electric vehicle in the near future, Tech Radar reports.

Musk told the BBC Apple's plans are "an open secret" and rumors regarding the company's plans are very open.

"It's pretty hard to hide something if you hire over a thousand engineers to do it," he said.

Apple has not only hired automotive experts, but the company has also registered the domain names of apple.car, apple.cars and apple.auto. Additionally, the company has allegedly contacted a company to build a testing track for the cars to be tested. Finally, Apple's chief design officer has expressed his dislike for the way cars look.

Musk is not overly concerned about the possibility of an electric vehicle from Apple. He believes the vehicle would "expand the industry" but says Tesla has more to offer.

"Tesla will still aspire to make the most compelling electric vehicles, and that would be our goal, while at the same helping other companies to make electric cars as well," he said.

If Apple does build an electric car it might not have any self-driving features. Tesla is continuing to add self-driving features like automatic parking and being able to summon the vehicle when away from it. Musk thinks self-driving is important for the future of cars.

"Owning a car that is not self-driving in the long term will be like owning a horse -- you would own it and use it for sentimental reasons but not for daily use," Musk said.

Musk recently said he thinks that his electric cars will be able to be "summoned" without a driver from one side of the U.S. to the other by 2018.
