Ricardo Medina Jr., who is best known for his character as Red Wild Force Ranger in the "Power Rangers" TV series, has been arrested and charged with murder for fatally stabbing his roommate Josh Sutter back in January 2015.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced on Thursday that the actor is facing murder raps in connection with the death of his friend with whom he shared a home in Green Valley, California, Fox News Latino reported.

The incident transpired after the two men had an argument over Medina's girlfriend and it escalated until he brought out a samurai sword which was lunged into Sutter's stomach.

This is the second time that the actor was arrested due to the crime. When he was first taken into custody last year, he was released after claiming self-defense and his friends believe this too.

They said that Medina only did the act in order to defend himself while arguing with Sutter. "It absolutely was self-defense. It's definitely somebody that was coming after him and he did what he had to do," Frank Sheftel, long-time friend of the Power Rangers star, told ABC News.

In any case, the incident took place on Jan. 31, 2015, investigators disclosed that Ricardo and Josh argued at their home in San Francisquito, Canyon Road. Medina told them that he withdrew from the heated bickering and went to his bedroom with his girlfriend.

However, Sutter followed and pushed open the door. It was then that the actor took out his sword and thrust it to Sutter's stomach. Medina did not run but called 911 for help. He waited and Josh was rushed to emergency, but he later succumbed to his stab injuries.

ABC News further reported that Ricardo's friends also set-up a campaign to help raise money for Medina's legal fees since they believe he doesn't deserve to be put in jail.

"We want him out. He doesn't belong there. He was protecting himself and his girlfriend," Sheftel said.

He further said, "He's a public figure. He's never been in trouble. He's a super nice guy, works with pets. He's a sweetheart."

Meanwhile, regarding the recent arrest, Medina's lawyer, Allen Bell told TMZ, "As far as i know, nothing has changed since a year ago when Rickey was first arrested. From the evidence I am aware of, he is as innocent now as he was then."

The lawyer also expressed that the arrest now may somehow affect testimonies because "Waiting a year to charge someone can prejudice a client; memories become faded, you may not be able to find percipient witnesses, and crime scenes can get corrupted."

Ricardo Medina Jr. is set for arraignment on Tuesday and his bail is up at $1 million. He is facing a 26-year imprisonment term if convicted.
