YouTube has created an easy way for video creators to help nonprofit organizations generate money through donations. With donation cards embedded into videos, viewers are able to donate directly from the video.

These new YouTube donation cards allow video creators to help support their choose of over 1.8 million different nonprofits, Tech Crunch reports.

Soliciting Donations From Regular Users

Nonprofit organizations were already able to attach these cards to their own videos, but usually people are more likely to donate if a video comes from a regular YouTube user rather than a professionally produced video from a nonprofit.

The popular "ice bucket challenge" that was designed in support of ALS (Lou Gehrig's Disease) might have been able to earn more donations if YouTube users were able to attach a donation card at the end of their video.

YouTube users could use annotations to ask their viewers to donate to a cause, but the donation cards make it easy to complete a donation.

No Fees

Donations that come from these donation cards go directly to the YouTube creator's choice of charity. Google will not be taking any commissions or fees out of the donations and 100 percent of the money will go right to the charity.

YouTube video creators can easily edit their videos to include a donation card by going into their Video Manager section of their account. They simply choose the charity or cause of their choice and decide what point in the video that they want the card to popup.

YouTube states in their blog that there are over one billion users on the video sharing website. With millions of hours of videos and billions of views, YouTube says that there are "billions of opportunities" for donations.

Donation cards will first be available for YouTube users in the United States, but YouTube plans to open up the program to more countries in the world so that "creators across the world can power nonprofits they care about."
