Prospects for a 12th season of "Bones" next fall aren't looking good, given news the show's executive producer may be moving on to a new project.

According to TVLine, Fox has placed a pilot order for a show named "Zoobiquity." The show is to be written and executively produced by Jonathan Collier, the current showrunner behind "Bones," along with Stephen Nathan, the former "Bones" showrunner.

Collier was named as the EP of "Bones" after Nathan stepped down at the end of last season. Since then, he and fellow EP Michael Peterson have been producing the show. However, that may change if "Zoobiquity" gets picked up this fall.

TVLine reports that "Zoobiquity" revolves around a successful and ambitious cardiologist, who teams up with a socially-awkward veterinarian better able to relate to animals than people. The odd duo tries to put aside their competitive natures to work toward finding cures to diseases that affect both humans and animals using a unique blend of cross-species medicine.

Earlier this month, Fox co-chairman and CEO Dana Walden also hinted that this may very well be the final season for "Bones." While speaking at the Television Critics Association winter press tour, she admitted that she's "really not sure" if the show will be picked up again, reported TVLine.

"It's top of next-week business to start talking with the producers about whether this will be the end of its run or if it will go another season," she added.

If, however, the comedy-drama series is not renewed, then Walden promises that fans will be given a "satisfying" ending.

She said show creator Hart Hanson and the show writers "will be given plenty of time to start writing a meaningful ending to the show. They have such a loyal fan base, and those fans deserve a satisfying ending."

Collier said fans should expect the series to return sometime in March or April, according to another TVLine report.
