A video has gotten viral, showing a student schooling her Caucasian teacher about racism. The footage has spread across social media sites worldwide and has since garnered close to five million views.

The Huffington Post wrote about how a Latino student reacted to her teacher’s lesson on racism.

“You’re trying to say that it’s just race. No. Racism is based on the systematic oppression of people. White people have never suffered that,” said the student in the video. The girl proceeded to talk about how racism happens in various social and political settings and how the teacher, as a white man, has never encountered such type of oppression and that she refuses to believe him.

“It’s kind of like you, as a white man, saying what is and what is not racist. And that’s what’s been happening throughout this century,” she continued. She also told her teacher that it is impossible for white people to experience racism because they have never been discriminated against or disenfranchised by institutions.

The teacher, while the girl was responding, was shown in the 30-second clip, just standing quietly and failing to counter the salient points. After the student finished speaking, the rest of her classmates, who also appear to be of different racial backgrounds, applauded and praised her for standing up for what she believes was right.

The video first surfaced on the Facebook page But That’s None of My Business.

According to Free Speech, the parents of the female student deserve to be commended for their efforts in raising a socially aware individual who understands the detriments of systemic racism and favorable status of white people. It was proper for the student to be applauded for her brave answer and dispute an educator on points that she believes are roundless and should be addressed accordingly.

The teacher has not commented on the video. The footage is expected to continue circulating in the next several days, which will hopefully make people more aware about racial discrimination and the importance of taking courage to correct the issue.

For many years, people of color have experienced discrimination in various forms and levels. An article by The Guardian also cites Donald Trump’s presidential campaign and his controversial "hate speech" against Latinos. Trump's political platform seems to encourage white power and create a wider gap against minorities.

A wider awareness campaign, particularly during the 2016 US elections, is necessary. Check out the video here.
