For the past years Disney has held on to the Best animated prize at the Oscars, whether it was with a Pixar film or a Disney animation film. This year the studio looks like it will hold onto the prize once again with one of two films.

Earlier in the year Disney triumphed with "Zootopia" as it was not only a critics darling but was also a box office hit. The film scored an impressive 98 percent on aggregate review site Rotten Tomatoes and at the box office it scored over $1 billion worldwide, becoming the second most successful animated film of all time. Disney animated films have been successful in the past with "Tangled," "Big Hero 6" and "Frozen" getting nominated; "Frozen" and "Big Hero 6" both won the category.

However, both of those films were released in November. Meanwhile "Zootopia" was released in the beginning of the year, which could be detrimental to its Oscar chances since many times voters forget films from the beginning of the year. Luckily the film just hit DVD shelves and if it continuous to generate buzz on demand and on home video, the film could be on its way to an Oscar nomination.

Meanwhile "Finding Dory" is the latest film from Pixar, a company that has won the Oscar nine times and has only missed nominations three times. "Dory" is one of the most anticipated films of the year and it is the sequel to the hit "Finding Nemo," which was released back in 2003 and remains one of the biggest box office successes from Pixar. "Dory" comes 13 years after the original film and box office prognosticators are predicting that the film could open with almost $115 million and break records for an animated film. "Finding Dory' is also expected to be a critical hit like the first one, which could help boost its Oscar chances.

However, both these films could face steep competition from Disney's third animated release, "Moana," which is set to be released in November and which looks to add yet another princess to the Disney collection.
