Those of you who grew with the famous "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" may be surprised to know that it will soon return to the big screen. The film adaptation of this long-popular TV series was confirmed by Lionsgate this week. The film rights were acquired by Lionsgate from Saban Brands. No director, script or cast has been drafted yet as it is still in the earliest stages of the production process.

Haim Saban, the characters' creator, stated that there is no other production company that can transform Power Rangers to film. He said, "Lionsgate has vision, marketing prowess, and an incredible track record in launching breakthrough hits from The Hunger Games to Twilight and Divergent." Fans speculate that the film adaptation will likely have a darker, grittier style, given the known production style and track record of Lionsgate's recent films.

The titular Power Rangers are a group of high school students who become superheroes in order to fight huge robot beasts to save the world. The stories and characters of the Power Rangers have been well loved by multiple generations over the past 20 years. Jon Feltheimer, CEO of Lionsgate, told Guardian that it is even stronger today than ever. Initially shown on TV, the original "Mighty Morphin Power Rangers" was produced by Saban. It was eventually purchased by Disney, but repurchased by Saban in 2010. Its television production features a distinctive combination of reused action footage from the Japanese show "Super Sentei" and original footage of the American actors. The series are equally beloved and maligned for the melodramatic style of the show and notorious for featuring a notable amount of violence for such a young target audience.

Although there are no casting announcements yet, MTV gave its prediction as to who will be included in the "Power Rangers Movie" cast, most prominently Liam Hemsworth as the Red Ranger, Jason, saying Hemsworth's build and good looks suit the role well.
