“Bates Motel” left off with a chilling season finale after Norman Bates (Freddie Highmore) killed his mother Norma Bates (Vera Farmiga), and has no clue that he committed the crime. What he does know, is that he loves his mother truly and he does not want to let her go.

Norman Keeps Norma’s Body at Home

After Norma’s funeral, Norman dug up his mother’s body and brought it to the house. He was so upset that she would not look at him, that he glued her eyes open.

One big change in Norman’s mindset is that he no longer hallucinates about his mother’s existence. Throughout the show, he would imagine her talking to him. Now those hallucinations are gone, forcing him to deal with her absence.

Will “Norma” ever talk to Norman again? Her random appearances may have lead him to kill other people, but it also was a coping mechanism to help Norman to forget about his difficult childhood.

Showrunners tell The Hollywood Reporter that Norman will mirror the character from “Psycho” and completely lose his mind. Norma’s death is surely the cause.

“Vera will always be the center of the show in any incarnation because the obsession with her has always driven the show,” screenwriter Kerry Ehrin said.

Will Norman walk around lugging his mother’s dead body? I would not put it past him.

Dylan and Emma

Meanwhile, Dylan Massett (Max Thieriot) has decided to move on from his crazy family to start a new life with his girlfriend Emma Decody (Olivia Cooke). The couple moved to a different state together while he tries to change his life around.

The couple may also deal with some trust issues in the future. A few people were killed in Dylan’s pursuit to raise the funds for Emma’s lung transplant and he never told her about it. Her dad never told her that Dylan helped with the transplant funds either.

If she finds out, will she regret ever getting the surgery? Will she lose trust in her boyfriend and father for keeping such a big secret from her? And what will Emma do when she finds out that Dylan had evidence that Norman killed her mother while they kept searching for the missing woman?

Bates Motel Ends

"Bates Motel" will officially end after the Season 5 finale. Showrunners confirmed the news after a summer Comic-Con panel.

“Bates Motel” is expected to return to A&E in May 2017. Stay tuned.
