Mercedes Benz is better known for its luxury cars. The company holds a huge market share in the luxury and premium car segments. But when it comes to making pickup trucks, the brand figures nowhere.

Ford, Nissan, GMC and Chevrolet are said to be the kings in manufacturing pickup trucks, but Mercedez-Benz might join their ranks soon, albeit with a luxurious twist. The German automaker has unveiled its new pickup truck models in Stockholm, Sweden. Called the X-Class, the new pickup trucks will serve as the first ones that will bear the highly-recognizable star emblem.

Mercedes-Benz first revealed its plan to make pickup trucks in 2015. Although the automaker has been in the business of making off-road vehicles for a long time, the new X-Class marks the first time they're making a pickup truck.

The Verve reported that the X-Class will be available in Europe, Australia, Southern Africa, and Latin America by late-2017.

In terms of design, the pickups look really stunning. The new X-Class range has two truck models - one for off-road use and another for high-end use.

News 18 further reported that the new Mercedes-Benz pickup trucks will be powered with V6 diesel engines with 4MATIC permanent all-wheel drive. The pickup trucks will have specially-constructed suspension with wide axles, and a five-link rear with coil springs and spring/damper set-up that's set to provide a pleasantly comfortable experience for passengers.

The X-Class series will also feature an electronic traction control system, a transfer case with reduction gear, and two different locks. The trucks have a payload capacity of more than 1.1 tons and towing capacity of up to 3.5 tons.

If rumors are to be believed, the X-Class will be manufactured in collaboration with Renault-Nissan. The pickup trucks will feature the same chassis used in the Nissan Navara pickup truck.

Mercedes-Benz has yet to release prices on the X-Class.
