Square-Enix has announced through its website that the mobile pinball game Justice Monsters Five will be discontinued by March 2017. Released on August 2016, the game inspired by Final Fantasy XV is shutting down its doors less than a year after launch.

According to Silicon Era, no reason was provided for the shutdown, though the company apologizes to its fan for any inconvenience it would cost. Golden Orbs, the in-game currency used in the game, will be pulled out from starting February 27, 2017. Any remaining Golden Orbs the player has after the shutdown date will be reimbursed by the company, though the details on how the process will take place will be provided at a later date. Golden Orbs were given to those who pre-registered for the game as a welcome gift. They could also be earned by completing tasks or, as most free-to-play mobile games do it, through purchase via microtransactions.

Justice Monsters Five, first revealed during the Uncovered: Final Fantasy XV event on March 2016, was originally scheduled for an April 2016 release, but several delays pushed the date to August. As Gematsu reports, a Windows 10 version of the game, currently available for iOS and Android, was originally scheduled for release, although with the announcement it would be unlikely for that to happen.

The game itself was a spinoff from a pinball machine of the same name Noctis and the gang encounters in Final Fantasy XV. Available on several diners around the nation of Lucis, the game could be played by Noctis, and it is said that the team enjoys the game.

The mobile version, however, offers a mechanic quite different from its in-game counterpart. Instead of playing like a regular pinball game, the mobile app features a team of four monsters that the player uses to launch the ball into enemies that arrive in waves.
