On Wednesday, Warner Bros. announced the official title to 2013's "Man of Steel" follow-up film as "Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice."

This past month has certainly been an exciting one for comic book fanboys who have been eagerly chomping at the bit for any new news regarding the film that has DC Comic's World's Finest heroes pitted against each other on the big screen.

Last week, the film's director, Zack Snyder, released the first image of both the new Batmobile and Ben Affleck in the new Batsuit. Plus, earlier this week, cellphone photos appeared on the web of Gal Gadot in her new role as Diana Prince, aka Wonder Woman.

While preliminary production began on the film last month, Time magazine reported that principal photography officially began for "Dawn of Justice" on Wednesday, the same day the title was officially announced. Production is currently taking place in Michigan and is expected to stay there for the summer before heading out to other areas such as Illinois, Africa and the South Pacific, according to the Warner Bros. press release.

The film's cinematographer, Larry Fong, posted a photo of the set to his Instagram, which revealed the back of playing card stuck to a wall. Many fans around the Internet began speculating that the Joker would be making an appearance in the film. However, Fong debunked the rumor and said the photo was a tribute to expert card thrower Ricky Jay, according to European news site Metro.

What is for certain, however, is legendary composer Hans Zimmer is returning to score the film after he completes his duties on the new Christopher Nolan epic "Interstellar."

Also, Henry Cavill is returning to play the titular role of Superman and will be joined by returning cast members Amy Adams, Laurence Fishburne and Diane Lane. The newest edition to the cast include Ray Fisher who will play Cyborg, a founding member of the Justice League, along with Gadot, Affleck, Jesse Eisenberg and Jeremy Irons.

The title itself gives credence to the expectation that the film will lead into a full-fledged Justice League film to follow in the footsteps of Marvel Studio's cinematic universe and the success of its Avengers film.

The film is due on May 6, 2016, and is currently set to face Marvel's "Captain America 3" film.
