A week after the Microsoft Surface RT got a 30 percent price cut, the Surface Pro is now available for $100 off its standard retail price. The Surface Pro now costs $799 for 64GB and $899 for 128GB. According to the company's website, the $100 price discount is valid until Aug. 30 and is only applicable in select Microsoft retail and online stores in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada.

Although there is plenty of speculation regarding the price discount, the reason for the move remains undisclosed. According to a source, one possible reason for the price discount might be the back-to-school shopping season.

The Surface Pro is an ultrabook/tablet hybrid which offers users the comfort of having both a laptop and a touch screen device. It operates on Windows 8, making it capable of running any software available for desktop or PC use. This means users can enjoy the comfort of MS Office, multiple users and mouse control in games, among many other applications.

Another possible reason for the price discount is its cost, which is higher compared to other tablets. The $899 price of a 128GB Microsoft Surface Pro does not include Microsoft Office Home and Student 2013, an extended 2-year warranty, a type cover, screen protector or an Incipio surface sleeve which the company's website offers for a bundled price of $309.99. Even the Surface Pro Bundle discounted from the regular price of $478.96 until Aug. 29 or while supplies last. Like the Surface Pro price discount, the Surface Pro Bundle Discount is only available at select Microsoft retail and online stores in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Canada, with a 1 bundle per Surface Pro price discount limit. More important, the $899 cost does not include the optional keyboard which users will have to purchase separately.

The Surface Pro has received mixed reactions from reviewers. One review in particular said that although beautifully crafted, the gadget will have a tough time competing with other ultrabooks which can perform almost if not as well for a much cheaper price. An average user will have to spend at least $1,000 for the Surface Pro -- a price range that not everyone can afford.
