After her two-year hiatus from the music scene, Selena Gomez is back with a new album released on Friday hinting about her past relationships that didn't go well.

Titled "Rare", the 27-year-old singer brings listeners through a journey of moving on and reclaiming independence and strength through tracks whose beats make you want to dance, according to an article by USA Today.

The album includes the songs "Lose You To Love Me" and "Look At Her Now," released late last year, as well as the title track "Rare", among others, which sums up her character development as she realizes her love interest isn't valuing her in the way she deserves.

"I don't have it all, I'm not claiming to / but I know that I'm special," goes the lyrics of "Rare". "It feels like you don't care / Why don't you recognize I'm so rare."

Gomez more closely follows a relationship on the brink of break-up, potentially channeling her real-life experiences with Justin Bieber or The Weeknd in her song "Cut You Off."

It has the lyrics, "I might as well just tell you when I'm drunk / The truth is that I think I've had enough / Emotionally messing with my head / How could I confuse that (expletive) for love."

Meanwhile, the singer talks about the sting of failed flames in "People You Know."

"When it was good, we were on fire / now I'm breathing ashes and dust," she sings. "So many wasted nights with you / I still can taste it, wish I could take it back."

Other songs, including "Dance Again," finds the singer getting back to herself again after hardship.

In late November, Gomez became the talk of the media industry following her shaky performance in the American Music Awards (AMA). Her nervous and emotional state was evident as she sang two songs about moving on. It was later revealed by a close friend of Gomez that she has suffered a panic attack prior to her much-anticipated performance.

According to E! News, a reliable source confirmed them about her anxiety and panic attack before she went on the stage and that the singer sounds better during the rehearsal.

Gomez has been vocal about experiencing anxiety and depression with mental health references on her album.

Amidst her battle with mental health problem, it's a good thing Gomez has a support system in the industry like her musical bestie Taylor Swift.

During an interview with UK's Kiss FM last December, the singer recalled the time she played "Lose You to Love Me" and "Look at Her Now" for Swift and her mom.

"It was one of the coolest experiences because I've been friends with her for over a decade and love her family as well," Gomez said. "She played it and her and her mom just started crying tears and tears... It's gonna make me cry thinking about it, because it wasn't just about how great the song was, which is a lot coming from her, it was just that they had been on that journey with me, intimately."

She continued, "They were crying because of how proud they were for me stepping into a whole new era of my life, and it not involving the horrible things, the abuse, the emotional chaos. It felt like I had a huge sigh of relief."

The singer said it was like having an older sister and an aunt. "It felt great to have people I love see it as that," she added.
