There is an easy way to monitor the activities inside and outside your home. And this is by turning an old phone into a spy camera. The most interesting part of this is that it's free.

If you have an old phone you don't use but it is still working, do not sell it right away. Make use of it as a spy camera. You can even turn it into a baby monitor or a makeshift Google Home Speaker. But one of the best ways of repurposing an old phone is to make it into a home security camera.

Here are the steps on how to turn an old phone into a spy camera according to a recently published article:

STEP 1: DOWNLOAD A SECURITY APP

The first thing that you have to do is to download a security camera app. Most of these have the same features as local streaming, cloud streaming, recording or storing footage locally or remotely, and motion detection alerts.

Once you are done downloading, just follow the instructions and you can start monitoring the activities inside and outside your house. You can also view the footage by connecting it to your new phone.

One of the best free camera apps is Alfred. This is compatible with an Android or an iPhoneWhat are the advantages of using Alfred?

  • This is free to use and gives you a remote view of your live feed.
  • Motion detection with alerts
  • Free cloud storage
  • A two-way audio feed and use of both the front and rear cameras

You can also access the other features of this app by upgrading it to Alfred Premium. Remember to make sure that your old phone and new phone are synchronized with each other.

STEP 2: POSITION YOUR OLD PHONE OR CAMERA TO THE BEST SPOT

The next step that you need to do is to find a good spot for your phone. You can place it at the main entry point of your home, your backyard, or part of your house where your valuables are. Try to consider also the part of your house where it is very vulnerable to thieves.

You can also place multiple old cameras to remotely monitor your house.

STEP 3: MOUNT AND POWER YOUR NEW SECURITY CAMERA

You can use a small smartphone tripod or suction cup car mount and place your camera in an unnoticeable place. Try to consider also buying a wide-angle lens for your phone.

To keep your phone from dying, you also need to position it near the power source or you can choose to have a 10-foot Micro-USB or Lightning cable that will give you more flexibility so you can select where you're going to place your camera.

So these are the three easy steps in turning your old phones to spy cameras. There is no need for you to go outside the house and buy CCTV's that may only last for a year without a warranty. Let this be one of your activities while you are still in a period of isolation.
