The year 2020 has so far been a prosperous and successful year for Pitizion. She appeared in a music video with Colombian singer, Greeicy, for the song "No Pasa Nada." She also served as the opening act in the concerts of Grammy-award winning Spanish musician, Alejandro Sanz.

While the ongoing health crisis has suspended the preparations of many artists, the young Colombian star has kept producing songs and expanding her fanbase.

Who is Pitizion?

Pitizion, whose real name is Maria del Pilar Perez, grew up in the Llanos region in Colombia.

In an interview with Billboard, Perez revealed her stage name came from a man named Papa Zion who did her dreadlocks when she was 19.

She made her debut in the film industry after being cast on a famous Nickelodeon Latinoamerica's 2011 show Grachi. According to IMDb, the show shows a witch's experiences with life and love after moving into a new city. Perez played Dotty who was the sidekick of the story's main antagonist, Matilda. She was a recurring character throughout the first three seasons, appearing in at least 187 episodes.

She started sharing her artistic ability on social media platforms in 2017, noting that her love for music never left.

Pitizion, who now lives in Miami, said that her passion for music comes from losing her father at a young age. The artist said composing music became the way she could express her thoughts.

Chance at the Spotlight

Years of striving and growing her body of work led record producer Andres Saavedra to notice her. The producer introduced Pitizion to Universal Music Latin, where she officially signed in 2019.

The record label helped launch her debut single "Ella" on July 5, 2019. She also released an eight-track extended play titled La Piti. The EP featured collaborations with famous musicians Greeicy, Rafa Pabon, and Big Soto for the "Ella" remix.

While the Llanos artist doesn't like being restricted to one genre, she defines herself as a contemporary singer-songwriter. Piti also prides herself in her ability to shell out pop-urban melodies with hints of rap. Her strong, diverse lyrics and global, free-spirited fusions were predominantly inspired by several artists, including Cuban rapper duo Los Aldeanos, Puerto Rican rapper Rene "Residente" Perez, Spanish singer Bebe and stars from Colombian Vallenato.

Piti is currently making rounds with her single "Tú." The song highlights the importance of loving oneself and embracing diversity. She revealed her boyfriend, whose lived a simple life, served as the inspiration for the song. She also said the song represents her personality of being a very spiritual girl.

The song, Piti said, represents the need to always remember and be proud of individuality and uniqueness.

The Colombian singer-songwriter is working on new music amid the ongoing health crisis caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. She is hoping to release her first album within the coming months.
