Happy Father's Day to all of those fathers who are the teachers, protectors, advisers, and some outdoors men. This is your guide to making those last minute ideas and gifts for your Dad on his special day.

For time and especially sentiment, here are five Do-It-Yourself (DIY) gift ideas to give to your Dad.

DIY #1: Make him a toy

For those Dads who love old-fashioned games such as spinning a top, why not attempt at making one for him. You will need a Crayola Model Magic, which is available at some stationery stores, as well as food coloring, one golf tee, some glue, and one wooden bead.

You are supposed to break off walnut-size chunks of the Model Magic, then add a drop of food coloring to each of them. As you mix them, keep adding more food coloring until you achieve your desired color.

Then flatten the clay into disc-like shapes, spheres, and pyramids. Then stack on the golf tee, and then remove, while keeping the pieces together.

Afterwards, let the pieces dry, follow the package instructions, and then slip them back onto the tee, and secure at the top and bottom with a dab of glue. Finally, glue the bead to the top of the tee. Your top is ready.

DIY #2: Doing Dad's chores

Anything like yardwork, housework, or whatever chores he does on the weekends would be helpful. These helpful activities could include mowing the lawn, trimming the trees, or doing handy work around the house.

DIY #3: Making Dad a home-cooked meal

Sometimes not everyone in the family can have a meal together, but you should set aside some time to make Dad's favorite meal tomorrow, and also make some time through Skype, or whatever digital contact applications and devices that you use, to interact with other family members who could not make it.

DIY #4: Getting a good book for Dad

Here are at least three: "The Night Before Father's Day," a children's book about how two kids and a mother plan a surprise for the Dad in their lives, the day before Father's Day. Dwyane Wade, the eight-time NBA All-Star, penned a book titled "A Father First: How My Life Became Bigger Than Basketball" about his life, including his basketball injuries, his career in the NBA, and his journey into fatherhood. And perhaps a self-help book, "Be a Better Dad Today: Ten Tools Every Father Needs," by Gregory Slayton.

DIY #5: Crafting coffee mugs

Decorate a custom mug for your dad. They are some inexpensive mugs that you can get from your local dollar store, and decorate them using Sharpies. On the mug, you can write a message to dad, or let the kids color.

Put the mug in the oven, and turn it to 450 degrees F. Then set a timer for 30 minutes; after the timer goes off, turn off the oven, but allow the mug to cool completely before removing. With this method, one should be able to hand wash the mug without the design coming off.
