Fourteen children and a teacher were reported dead on Tuesday following the Texas school shooting that occurred in the city of Uvalde.

The number of fatalities in Tuesday's tragedy was confirmed by Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

"The state of Texas is in mourning with them for the reality that these parents are not going to be able to pick up their children," Abbot underscored, per ABC News.

 Abbot also claimed that the shooter was dead and is believed to have been killed by officers who responded at the scene, according to a CBS News report.

The identities of the casualties were not mentioned by the authorities.

According to CNBC, the mass casualty incident was reported to the authorities around 11:30 a.m. The shooting was reportedly no longer active on Tuesday afternoon.

The shooting was known to occur in Robb Elementary School in Uvalde. The said area is located 83 miles west of San Antonio. The school reportedly teaches second, third, and fourth-grade students, Uvalde CSID Police Chief Pedro Arredondo highlighted.

Meanwhile, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre took to Twitter to announce that President Joe Biden was briefed about what happened in Uvalde, Texas.

She then added that the president extends his prayers to the families affected by the tragedy.

Robb Elementary School Shooter Identified

Texas Governor Gregg Abbott noted that the gunman in the recent Texas school shooting was an 18-year-old male who is also a resident of Uvalde City.

Multiple senior law enforcement sources identified the shooter as Salvador Ramos. Abbott added that Ramos is believed to leave his vehicle and entered the school with a handgun and possibly a rifle.

Two law enforcement confirmed that Ramos had a handgun and an AR-15 assault weapon. The shooter also had high-capacity magazines.

"He shot and killed, horrifically and incomprehensibly, 14 students and killed a teacher," the Texas governor underscored.

The Uvalde CSID police chief also stressed that the investigation tells them that the shooter acted alone on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, multiple law enforcement also confirmed that Ramos, the alleged shooter, was also suspected of killing his grandmother before opening fire on the school.

The motive for the shooting in Uvalde, Texas is still unclear.

Other Victims of Texas School Shooting in Uvalde, Texas

There were other victims of the shooting on Tuesday, aside from the 15 who died following the tragedy.

Uvalde Memorial Hospital CEO Tom Nordwick claimed that at least 13 children were taken to their emergency room. The CEO noted two were transferred, and one is pending a transfer.

Customs and Border Protection agents reported responding at the scene. However, one of their agents was shot in the head. The said agent, who was not named, has been hospitalized and is now in stable condition.

Abbott also claimed that two officers were also struck when they exchanged gunshots with the shooter. Both officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries.

Meanwhile, University Health in San Antonio tweeted that they are treating a 66-year-old woman and a 10-year-old girl. Both are in critical condition.

South Texas Blood and Tissue said that it sent at least 15 units of blood to Uvalde on Tuesday in the aftermath of the Texas school shooting.
