At least three migrants were found dead by authorities from Mexico, claiming that the victims drowned in the Rio Grande River close to the U.S.-Mexico border.

The National Immigration Institute reported that the bodies of the three migrants were discovered on Sunday. No identification was found on two of the migrants who drowned, according to the Associated Press. The third individual had documents indicating that he was from Nicaragua.

Three other migrants were also rescued by the authorities and were found alive. According to Al Jazeera, the trio is composed of a woman, a two-year-old girl, and an eight-year-old girl. The three were reportedly trying to cross the same river to reach the United States. However, the cold waters and strong currents made them unable to continue their journey.

The three, who were reportedly from Honduras, were rescued with an airboat. They were brought to a border city in Piedras Negra, where they were booked into a shelter.

Border Surge: Migrants Continue to Cross Rivers in Attempt to Rach the U.S.

Data from the U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) showed that undocumented migrants continue to cross the U.S.-Mexico border at unprecedented levels, Fox News reported.

The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) predicts up to 18,000 migrants could cross the U.S.-Mexico Border daily if the Title 42 expulsion expires.

Reports claimed that local, state, and federal resources are partnering to prepare for the incoming influx of migrants.

The Texas National Guard set up concertina wire along the Rio Grande river to deter migrants from crossing into the United States.

According to Hidalgo County Water Improvement District No. 3 president, Othal Brand, the environment outside the U.S.-Mexico border where the migrants came from is different from inside the barricades.

"Outside of the city limits outside on the river, where these guys were it's a totally different environment. Totally different environment. Our men... they've been shot at. We've pulled at least a dozen bodies out of the river," Brand underscored.

The district president also noted that they do not want such a move to be the norm.

Effects on Cracking Down Migrants on Borders

Immigrant and activist groups claimed that the crackdown on migrant crossing contributed to why illegal immigrants use riskier routes to reach the United States.

Reports mentioned that migrants usually wade, swim, or take rafts in crossing the Mexico River in an attempt to reach the U.S.

The three dead migrants discovered by authorities from Mexico on Sunday were not the first case of immigrants drowning in bodies of water in connection to their journey in crossing the border.

Last week, authorities from Vera Cruz reported at least six migrants that drowned on Mexico's Gulf Coast.

In another incident, a migrant father and his son were discovered dead in the Suchiate River, the border between Mexico and Guatemala. Both victims were reportedly from El Salvador.

Meanwhile, four migrants were pulled alive from the ocean by rescuers after their 25-foot open boat capsized off the coast.
