Mexican singer Yrma Lydia was shot dead by her lawyer husband inside a Mexico City restaurant on Thursday.

Daily Mail reported that the 21-year-old Mexican singer was shot at the Suntory Del Valle restaurant in the south of the city when she was attacked by her partner, 79-year-old Jesús Hernández Alcocer.

Omar García Harfuch, Secretary of Security for Mexico City, noted that a man shot his wife three times, adding that Alcocer was detained along with another woman who accompanied him.

Witnesses noted that a gray-haired man shot the singer, who turned out to be his wife, after an argument.

Alcocer also tried to bribe the police to let him escape in the company of one of his security guards, who was also arrested.

Mexican Singer Shot Dead in a Restaurant

Troops carried out security actions in the area and were alerted by the diners of an establishment. Authorities moved to the point with necessary precautions, according to an El Universal repot.

Law enforcement authorities requested medical services for the woman who was injured. Paramedics arrived at the site and announced that she has no vital signs.

The 79-year-old husband of the Mexican singer tried to flee on board a vehicle.

He was informed of his right of law and transferred to the agent of the Public Prosecutor's Office, who will determine his legal status and carry out the investigations of the case.

Alcocer's driver and escort were also arrested after helping him leave the place.

Lydia was seen as a new promise of the Mexican regional. She was already a member of "Great Twelve," which is a project that she shared with Dulce, Maria Conchita Alonso, and Alicia Villareal.

The Mexican singer reportedly started studying arts when she was two years old, with her parents enrolling her in a ballet class.

She was a recipient of the National Prize for Culture, which is awarded by the Senate of the Republic, and an Honorary Doctorate awarded by the Chamber of Deputies.

Meanwhile, gender violence has intensified in Mexico in recent years with an average of 10 women murdered daily.

The continued trend upwards of crime under Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador has raised questions.

Femicide in Mexico

In 2020, women's groups led a wave of popular protest clamoring for concerted and immediate action by authorities to better protect women and bring justice to those murdered and missing, according to an Aljazeera report.

The executive director of Amnesty International in Mexico noted that 11 women are killed in Mexico every day, adding that federal and state authorities are not doing enough to find women who are missing.

Activist Frida Guerrera blamed rampant impunity for the emergency in a country where more than 90 percent of all crimes go unsolved.

Many women's rights advocates hoped for progress after Lopez Obrador was elected president in 2018.
