Stimulus check 2022 in California has eligibility standards for those who want to apply. You can qualify if you filed your 2020 tax return by October 15, 2021, and meet the California adjusted gross income limits specified on the Middle-Class Tax Refund page.

The state of California Franchise Tax Board also noted that applicants are qualified if they were not eligible to be claimed as a dependent in the 2020 tax year and a California resident for six months or more in the 2020 tax year.

California's Middle-Class Tax Return payments are categorized by income bracket, with those who earn less money qualifying for a larger payment. Single filers making up to $250,000 and couples making up to $500,000 qualify for at least a partial payment.

Recent college students and young adults are likely to see an additional requirement, such as they cannot be eligible to be claimed as a dependent during the 2020 tax year.

KTLA reported that the smallest payment possible is $200, while the biggest possible payment for the program is $1,050. The Franchise Tax Board announced that more information will be released on the payment schedule. Payments will be issued through direct deposit or debit cards.

The head of household or surviving spouse has a different payment scheme. Those earning $150,000 or less will receive $700 with a dependent, while those without a dependent will receive $350.

Those earning more than $150,000 to $250,000 with a dependent will receive $500, while $250 for those without a dependent. Lastly, filers earning more than $250,000 to $500,000 with a dependent will receive $400 and $250 for those without a dependent.

California Inflation Relief

The California inflation relief payments are part of the $308 billion state budget approved last month by California lawmakers.

Assemblymember Phil Ting, chair of the Assembly Budget Committee, said they did tax refunds as they value dollars "in your bank account versus pennies at the pump."

According to NBC Los Angeles, the inflation relief package will be worth $17 billion of California's budget, which would provide relief to millions of taxpayers.

California Governor Gavin Newsom, Senate President pro Tempore Toni G. Atkins (D-San Diego), and Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon (D-Lakewood) said in a joint statement that California's budget addresses the state's most pressing needs.

The lawmakers noted that they are also prioritizing getting dollars back into the pockets of millions of Californians struggling with inflation and its effects on consumers. Payments distribution will begin in October, with final payments being disbursed in January 2023.
