"Game of Thrones" prequel "House of the Dragon" has premiered on HBO, explaining the history of House Targaryen.

Deadline reported that it dates back to 172 years before the death of the Mad King and the birth of Daenerys Targaryen, who is played by Emilia Clarke in the "Game of Thrones" series.

The first episode shows Rhaenyra, played by Milly Alcock. The character is the daughter of Paddy Considine's King Viserys.

Rhaenyra walks arm-in-arm with her confidante Alicent, played by Emily Carey.

Viserys was also shown in the premiere, with him being focused on his wife carrying his son, who he hopes will someday inherit the tile.

The Queen then underwent a difficult pregnancy and was put under a primitive C-section as her baby was breech. The procedure then took her life. Her infant son also ended up dying.

Visery's brother, Prince Daemon Targaryen, was also introduced. His character was portrayed as a city commander who appears to enjoy having his soldiers "castrate and behead" criminals at King's Landing.

Daemon seems to be the next heir on the throne. However, there were individuals opposing this suggestion, such as Otto Hightower, the King's hand.

Viserys ended up anointing his daughter Rhaenyra as the next leader of the realm. It was where the premiere episode ended.

'House of the Dragon' Episode

The episode also showed the King having a wound on his back that will not heal, saying it was from sitting on the Iron Throne. NPR noted that the reference was directly taken from the books that the TV series Game of Thrones did not pick up on.

The succession to the throne was one of the main focuses of the premiere episode, with many playing their case against Daemon for being "impulsive, too ambitious, too cruel for the Iron Throne."

Upon the announcement of Rhaenyra's succession, Daemon fled the King's Landing.

'House of the Dragon' Creators on The Birth Scene

Meanwhile, the graphic birth scene stirred reaction among viewers.

Ryan J. Condal, co-creator of the "Game of Thrones" prequel, said in a Vanity Fair report that a lot of people had a thing to say about the birth of Prince Baelon.

Queen Aemma was screaming and was held and cut open by doctors and midwives with hopes of saving the breech baby.

George R.R. Martin said one does not want to use the word "enjoyable" for such a scene but described it as a powerful scene.

The author of the books, which was the basis of the sequel and prequel, said that the scene has the same impact as the Red Wedding.

Condal said they wanted to dramatize the birth of a child, which could be considered the woman's battlefield during the historical age. The co-creator said there is "a particular violence to childbirth," including childbirths that go well in the end.

Martin noted that the scene will "rip your heart out and throw it on the floor," adding that it was a beautiful scene out of something horrible.
