One Ohio father has been charged with murder and two counts of endangering a child, including involuntary manslaughter, after police said he confessed to intentionally leaving his infant son inside a hot car for five hours.

The Ohio father was identified as 19-year-old Landon Parrott. He reportedly brought his one-year-old son to the Cleveland Union Hospital on September 1 afternoon.

NBC News reported that he allegedly initially provided detectives inconsistent details about what had happened.

New Philadelphia Police Chief Michael Goodwin said in a Facebook post that the father was encountered with new information as the investigation continued and more evidence was gathered.

Parrott reportedly confessed to the detectives what had happened to his infant son. Goodwin added that it was a deliberate act and not "a matter of forgetting the child."

New Philadelphia Police Det. Capt. Ty Norris said the Ohio father told detectives that he had seen reports of children dying inside hot cars but left his infant son inside one anyway.

Ohio Father Leaving Infant Son Inside Hot Car

Norris said there had been attempts to revive the child but all failed. Staffers told police that the father's story was not consistent with the symptoms the child was showing.

He noted that Parrott's version was that he found his infant son unconscious after he got out of the restroom.

Detectives involved in the case noted that the video showed Parrott leaving the child in the car alone in the vehicle while his mother was at work. Temperatures at the time were around 86 to 87, according to a Fox 8 News report.

Norris said they estimated that the car's interior would be about 130 degrees and the child was inside it strapped into a car seat with no fluids and no air conditioning.

Parrott was seen with the child around 8:30 a.m., and the next time he saw his infant son was at 1:50 p.m. when he went to the car to fetch his wife from work.

Police noted that during the interview with the Ohio father, he admitted that he left his infant son inside the hot car so that there would not be any disturbance in the apartment.

CBS News noted that Parrott was being held in the Tuscarawas County Jail on a $250,000 bond.

The incident was on Summerall Road. The girl was found in her car seat around 2:20 p.m., according to a Daily Voice report.
