The Great Blue Hole

Of course, we cannot talk about places to visit in Belize without discussing the mysterious natural wonder known as The Blue Hole. It's been branded a UNESCO World Heritage Site with good reason.

Known as the Great Blue Hole, it's often described to be a massive sinkhole in the middle of the sea. It can be found in the Lighthouse Reef Atoll and is a popular tourist diving spot. According to Planet Ware, divers can see steep walls with protruding limestone stalactites and a variety of marine life, including a few reef sharks.

Nohoch Che'en Caves Branch

River rafting is a popular activity worldwide. But how about river tubing inside a cave? That is the charm of the Caves Branch River, which is a popular destination in Belize. 

According to Belize Adventure, tourists ride inflatable tubes or tire inner tubes through Nohoch Che'en Caves Branch, passing through pottery shards and archaeological wonders around a thousand years old.

Cockscomb Basin Wildlife Sanctuary & Jaguar Preserve

Belize is known for its wildlife and areas such as Cockscomb Basin, which provide plenty of animal spotting for nature enthusiasts.

The nature preserve features diverse species, from jaguars and tapirs to pumas, monkeys, snakes, toucans, and scarlet macaws. Birdwatchers will also enjoy this place, as it boasts over 290 avian species.

However, the preserve also features plenty of nature trails for adventurers to trek if you are more on the hiking side. Just be wary of the wildlife.

Tobacco Caye

If you are not into adventure that much, then Tobacco Caye may be for you more. A few miles from the Belize Barrier Reef, Tobacco Caye is an excellent beach destination.

It is also great for snorkeling, fishing, and general relaxation. According to Belize Adventure, visitors can even interact with and feed stingrays.

Lamanai Archaeological Reserve

The Mayans had established an empire that stretched along Central Marica, and Belize is no different. One of the most famous Mayan ruins is the Lamanai Archaeological Reserve.

It is considered the longest Mayan site. It used to be a thriving community until the Spanish came. Lamanai means "submerged crocodile."
