Amidst a report of a record-high number of border crossings, President Joe Biden has stated his "intention" to visit the U.S.-Mexico border.

Fox News noted that Biden commented Wednesday at the Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky International Airport.

He said he "intends" to visit the border during his trip to the North American Leaders' Summit on January 9 and 10, where he will meet with Mexican President Andrés Manuel López Obrador and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau.

This would be Biden's first visit to the U.S.-Mexico border since taking office.

Republican Slams Joe Biden for Not Visiting US Mexico Border

The Republican Party has been criticizing Pres. Joe Biden for his refusal to visit the U.S.-Mexico border, despite his claims that he considers the plight of migrants to be a top priority, per CNBC.

The Supreme Court's decision last month upholding Title 42, an immigration regulation enacted by the Trump administration that permits authorities to remove asylum-seekers at the border promptly, dealt a legal blow to the Biden administration's efforts to enforce its immigration policies.

Biden administration wanted to put an end to the practice.

The administration is preparing for when the policy is finally lifted so that officials may handle the border in a secure orderly, and humanitarian fashion, said White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre, addressing Title 42 Wednesday.

"To truly fix our broken immigration system, though, we need Congress to act," she added. "We saw the president on his first day in office put forth a comprehensive immigration policy, legislation and that he did that to show how important this was, how much of a priority this was for him."

Biden's U.S.-Mexico border visit comes as House Republicans prepare to scrutinize his administration, with an emphasis on the border.

Joe Biden's U.S.-Mexico Border Visit

Since the border stretches for nearly 2,000 miles, it was unclear exactly where Biden would go. However, El Paso, Texas, has become a focal point in recent months for a humanitarian immigration crisis.

According to USA Today, there have been tens of thousands of migrants crossing the border at El Paso every month, with over 50,000 crossing in October and November alone.

More than 10,000 asylum seekers and other migrants were released by Border Patrol in a single week last month, prompting El Paso Mayor Oscar Leeser to proclaim a state of emergency.

Moreover, lots of people have been crashing on city sidewalks.

Title 42 makes it difficult to deport many migrants released by Border Patrol back to Mexico or their home nations.

Meanwhile, some Congress lawmakers applaud Biden for making the trip to the border.

Laredo Democrat and member of Congress Henry Cuellar said in a tweet to the president, "I applaud your visit to our southern border."

Cuellar has been pressing the administration to adopt more robust measures to rein in border crossings.

"Our border communities are confronting a catastrophe, the magnitude of which can only be grasped by seeing it firsthand," said Cuellar, the senior most congressmen from a border district in Texas.

He also thanked Biden for taking the first step in addressing the U.S.-Mexico border.
