The professional wrestling word is in shock as indie tag-team legend Jay Briscoe, real name Jamin Pugh, passed away at the age of 38. He was signed with Ring of Honor (ROH) at the time of his passing.

Tony Khan, who owns both All-Elite Wrestling (AEW) and ROH, was the one who broke the news on Tuesday. He released a statement on Twitter, saying that he and his brother, Mark Briscoe, dominated the ROH tag-team division and continued to reign as champions to this day.

The wrestling mogul, who is also one of the owners of the Jacksonville Jaguars, also promised to "do whatever we can to support his family."

Jay Briscoe Cause of Death May Be a Car Accident

Initially, the cause of death for the tag-team legend was unknown. However, renowned Wrestling insider Dave Meltzer revealed that Pugh died in a car crash.

Meltzer initially stated that the car crash happened in Laurel, Maryland but quickly corrected himself to reveal that it happened in Laurel, Delaware. Two people, including Jay Briscoe, reportedly died in the crash, according to Meltzer.

Meltzer also called out fans who have been disrespecting Pugh's family at the time of his death.

A police report from the Delaware State Police reported that there was indeed a fatal car crash in Laurel, Delaware in the area of Laurel Road and Little Hill Road around 5:30 pm. It did not mention who the victims were, but the reports indicate that this may be the crash that killed the ROH star.

Jay Briscoe Leaves Behind Stellar Wrestling Legacy

Jay Briscoe was one-half of the Briscoes and passed away as the reigning ROH champion. He lived in Delaware and was also a chicken farmer in the state, according to TJR Wrestling.

While never signed with WWE, he leaves behind a lasting legacy that proves a wrestler does not need to be signed with the world's largest wrestling promotion to make a name for himself.

Together with brother Mark Briscoe, he won the ROH Tag Team Champions 13 times, with Jay winning the ROH World Championship twice in his 20-plus-year career.

Most recently, he and Mark Briscoe won the ROH Tag team Championship for a record 13th time against FTR in last month's ROH Final Battle PPV event.

When ROH launched its inaugural Hall of Fame last year, the Briscoes were one of the first inductees as they have been integral in the promotion's history. His death has shocked many, with wrestlers all over the industry, even in WWE, all sending their condolences and expressing their shock at his death.
