SSDI payments or Social Security Disability Insurance is a Social Security benefit that pays monthly benefits to people who are unable to work for a year or more due to a disability.

Social Security Administration stated they determine qualifications based on their conditions, work history, and if they are currently working. Some workers who receive disability benefits are those who qualify on their own records and still manage to meet the work and disability requirements described by SSA.

The agency will also consider some people legally blind if their visual field is 20 degrees or less, even with a corrective lens.

Just like any benefits or program, SSDI has its own imposed distribution schedule for its beneficiaries.

SSDI recipients receive their payments on a schedule depending on two things: the date of their birth and the year they first started receiving SSDI benefits.

SSDI Payments Schedule

CNET noted that if you have been an SSDI beneficiary since 1997 or earlier, your payment should arrive on the third day of every month. However, there are exceptions.

If the third day of the month falls on a weekend or holiday, you will be getting your payment on the nearest business day.

June 3 falls on a Saturday in 2023, which would mean that beneficiaries would receive their payments on Friday.

March has no calendar exception for the payments distribution, so most recipients have received their payment on the 3rd.

Meanwhile, those who have not been receiving SSDI money since 1997 or before have different payments schedule.

If your birthday is between the 1st and 10th and you are receiving SSDI payments, you will get your SSDI money on the second Wednesday of every month.

Those with birthdays falling between the 11th and 20th of the month will receive their payments on the third Wednesday.

Recipients with birthdays between the 21st and 31st will receive their payments on the fourth Wednesday of the month. They will be receiving their benefits this March, on the 22nd.

People can apply for the benefit online, by phone, or in person. Once applicants submit their applications, the processing time for disability applications depends on the nature of the disability, including necessary medical evidence or examinations and applicable quality reviews.

Applicants might also be asked to provide some documentation, such as a birth certificate or other proof of birth; proof of U.S. citizenship or lawful alien status; U.S. military discharge papers if necessary, particularly if you were in the service before 1968.

Self-employment tax returns might be asked from you upon your application. There might also be a need for medical evidence such as medical records, doctors' reports, and recent test results.

Since January, those collecting SSDI money have been seeing an 8.7% increase in their monthly benefits due to the cost-of-living adjustment.

The COLA increased the monthly SSDI benefit for a disabled worker by $119, from $1,364 to $1,483.

As of September last year, more than 7.7 million workers are receiving SSDI.
