A Brazilian woman was found buried alive inside a tomb in a cemetery in Minas Gerais, Brazil. Two men have already been arrested in connection to the incident.

The 36-year-old mother-of-four was reportedly beaten and dragged from her home late last month before sealing her inside a tomb at the Visconde do Rio Branco Municipal Cemetery in the state of Minas Gerais and abandoning her.

She managed to survive inside the tomb for about 10 hours before she was rescued. The Daily Mail reported that gravediggers noticed fresh cement and blood near the grave, and their suspicions were confirmed after hearing a cry for help from inside the tomb.

The two municipal cemetery employees then called the authorities. In a statement, the state police said officers "heard someone inside calling for help, broke the brick wall, and removed a woman, who had injuries on her head and arm."

In a press conference held last Tuesday, police chief Diego Candian of the Visconde do Rio Branco Civil Police said they arrested the two suspects, aged 20 and 22, in the municipalities of Sao Geraldo and Vicosa last Saturday night.

Candian noted that the two suspects had plans to escape to Rio de Janeiro after their brutal act. However, he did not reveal the names of the young suspects, who had been arrested in the past on weapons and drug trafficking charges.

G1 news outlet reported that the Brazilian woman suffered a head injury and might lose one of her fingers. There is reportedly a possibility of her undergoing vascular surgery and amputation. Police said they are also searching for a third suspect, who is on the run.

Brazilian Woman Buried in Cemetary in Brazil May Have Been Drug Related

After she was rescued, the Brazilian woman told police that the three suspects attacked her in her home after she "misplaced" the drugs and weapons that she was supposedly stashing for them inside her house.

The suspects reportedly broke into her house on March 28. She said they also attacked her husband, who managed to escape.

The suspects then abducted her and took her to the cemetery. When she regained consciousness, she realized she was trapped inside the tomb.

According to The Express UK, tombs in Brazil are not typical coffins beneath the ground, much like ones in the United States. They are mostly small concrete boxes that are built into a brick wall.

When police arrived at the scene, they heard a woman crying from inside the tomb and started rescuing her.

Another Brazilian Woman was Buried Alive in Brazil in 2018

In early 2018, another incident of a Brazilian woman being buried alive also happened in Brazil.

Rosangela Almeida dos Santos was initially believed to have died from septic shock following two cardiac arrests. However, she was still alive.

After she was buried, Dos Santos was heard screaming from inside the tomb in a Riachao das Neves cemetery. That led to her family members smashing her tomb open and trying to get her out.

According to The Daily Mail, the Brazilian woman desperately tried to escape her wooden casket, which had been nailed shut after being buried alive.

However, she was already dead by the time her family members managed to open her tomb. The Brazilian woman was still warm when they reached her, but it was too late. There was evidence of her trying to escape her predicament.
