The cause of death for Grammy-winning "Gangsta's Paradise" rapper Coolio, who died last September at age 59, has finally been revealed by the Los Angeles coroner's office.

The coroner revealed that the rapper was another victim of an accidental fentanyl overdose. He also had traces of heroin and methamphetamine in his system, his manager and family spokesperson, Jarel Posey, who spoke with The Hollywood Reporter, said in a statement.

Coolio was found at a friend's house in Los Angeles already dead. However, the cause of his death was never truly revealed to the public. He won a Grammy Award for his hit song, "Gangsta's Paradise," which was featured in the Michelle Pfeiffer film, "Dangerous Minds."

His early success came at a time when rappers from Southern California dominated the Billboard charts, with Coolio appearing in other media after his musical success, such as performing and appearing in the opening for the Nickelodeon sitcom, "Kenan and Kel." He also guest-starred in other TV shows.

He experienced much of his success thanks to his first two albums, "It Takes a Thief" and "Gangsta's Paradise," which both received plenty of commercial and critical successes.

Los Angeles Coroner Reveals More Details on Coolio's Death

The Los Angeles Coroner's Office has revealed more details about the Grammy-winning rapper's death and that it was all accidental. It released a report that stated that Coolio also had "cardiomyopathy, unspecified asthma, and phencyclidine use" as "other specific conditions."

This means that because the rapper had cardiomyopathy, he has "a disease of the heart muscle that makes it harder for the heart to pump blood to the rest of the body. Cardiomyopathy can lead to heart failure."

The report also stated that he was using Phencyclidine or PCP, according to KRON-4. The drug was originally developed as an anesthetic, but the government discontinued its use after patients began "experiencing postoperative delirium with hallucinations."

The rapper was also a smoker, and Posey stated that severe asthma and decades-long use of cigarettes also played a factor in his death, as his body was not able to "fight back" because of these health factors. Police have confirmed that no drugs or paraphernalia were found at the scene of his death.

Coolio's Family Promises to Honor His Legacy

Posey, who also serves as the spokesperson for the rapper's family, stated that his children, Brandi, Jackie, Melan, Christopher, Artis III, Darius, and Artisha, have said that they will remember their father for the great man that he was and that the "public should know how much they loved him, and how he conquered the world both on the stage and when he wasn't performing."

The spokesperson, who also spoke with TMZ, stated that the family members are planning to honor the late rapper through documentaries and film, as well as continue the legacy that was his music.
