Another mass shooting has happened, this time in the Kingsessing section of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Police confirm that four people were killed, while another four people were wounded.

Two of those who were injured were children, ages 2 and 13. They were taken to a nearby hospital in the area and are now in stable condition, according to ABC 6 News. However, police confirmed that one of the four who were killed was possibly a teen male who could be between the ages of 16 and 21.

Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw held a press conference shortly after the deadly shooting happened. He confirmed that three of those who died in the attack were males between 20 and 59 years old.

The shooting happened around 56th Street and Chester Avenue. Multiple shots were reported around 8:30 pm, with police responding to those reports.

At least 50 shell casings were found at the crime scene, with Police Commissioner Outlaw confirming that the lone gunman also managed to hit some vehicles. Investigations into the attack are ongoing, with authorities closing off 56th Street so that forensic evidence can be gathered.

Philadelphia Mass Shooting Suspect Captured and Taken Into Custody

Following the attack, Philadelphia Police Commissioner Danielle Outlaw confirmed that the suspect who opened fire into the busy Philly street was captured without any incident.

Commissioner Outlaw explained that when police arrived, the suspect tried to run away while also shooting at the responding officers. However, the cops managed to catch up on the shooter and cornered him at an alley where he was safely captured.

The police commissioner also reported that the suspect, whose name they did not release, was wearing a bulletproof vest and carrying an AR-style rifle. Police also found that he had a handgun, as well as a police scanner.

Authorities are still trying to determine the shooter's motives on why he carried out such a deadly assault. It is still unclear if the victims had any connection to the shooter, though the Philly police chief admitted that she has no idea why this tragic attack happened in the first place.

According to CBS News, another man was also arrested after he shot back at the Philadelphia mass shooting suspect during his rampage. Outlaw said that the second shooter acquired a gun and shot in the direction of the alleged shooter.

Mass Shootings Happen Every Fourth of July

This latest mass shooting happened on the eve of the Fourth of July. However, USA Today pointed out that the holiday seems to always see its fair share of mass shootings, including last year's incident in Highland Park, Illinois that saw seven people dead and almost 50 others wounded.

Over the last ten years, the US has seen five mass shootings every Fourth of July, and over 50 of those mass shootings saw more than four people being hit. This was according to an analysis of Gun Violence Archive data by researcher James Alan Fox of Northeastern University in Boston.
