UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres has declared that the global warming era has ended, replaced by what he calls the "era of global boiling," per the Guardian.

This statement came in response to the sobering confirmation by scientists that July is set to become the hottest month on record.

Guterres emphasized the situation's urgency, stating that climate change is already a terrifying reality, and its impacts are only beginning to be felt.

He underscored the importance of limiting global temperature rise to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels to avoid the most catastrophic consequences of climate change. However, achieving this goal will require immediate and drastic climate action on a global scale.

The evidence supporting the severity of the situation is undeniable, with the World Meteorological Organization and the EU's Copernicus Earth observation program reporting that global temperatures this month have shattered records.

Burning fossil fuels significantly contributes to this extreme heat, exacerbating climate change and triggering violent weather patterns.

'Humans Are to Blame,' Says UN Secretary General

The UN Secretary General expressed grave concern over the record-breaking heat affecting communities worldwide, attributing the phenomenon directly to climate change.

He emphasized that while scientists had long predicted these extreme weather events, the speed and intensity of the changes are profoundly devastating.

Antonio Guterres emphasized that the evidence is unequivocal - human activities are to blame for the rapid acceleration of climate change, CNBC noted.

The alarming pace at which these changes occur has taken many by surprise.

The consequences of climate change are becoming increasingly apparent and are just the beginning of our challenges.

As Guterres issued this warning, much of the United States experienced what the National Weather Service deemed a "dangerous heat wave."

Several major cities, including Washington, DC, Philadelphia, and Boston, were under heat advisories, and the New York City metro area was placed under an excessive heat warning.

The National Weather Service anticipated that numerous high maximum and high minimum temperature records would be broken during this period.

July Heat Wave Wreaks Havoc Worldwide

Throughout July, extreme weather conditions have wreaked havoc across the globe, with temperatures shattering records in various regions, including China, the United States, and Southern Europe, according to Al Jazeera.

The scorching heat has triggered devastating forest fires, led to water shortages, and caused heat-related illnesses and hospitalizations.

In Italy, on the island of Sicily, the impact of the heatwave was particularly tragic, with two people found dead in a home that was consumed by a wildfire.

The severity of the fires even prompted the temporary closure of Palermo's international airport.

Algeria also experienced a grim toll, with at least 34 people losing their lives and several thousand individuals being evacuated in parts of Europe as the intense heatwave spread across vast areas of the Mediterranean and beyond.

Greece faced its own challenges as fires continued ravaging the island of Rhodes for an entire week.

The situation necessitated the largest evacuation effort ever undertaken in the country, compelling over 20,000 people to leave their homes and hotels for safety.
