Despite massively trailing Donald Trump, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis continues his strongman act for the 2024 election, vowing to "start slitting throats on day one."

This vow was directed against the so-called "Deep State," and he made those remarks during a New Hampshire campaign event hosted by former Republican Sen. Scott Brown of Massachusetts.

"We're going to have all of these deep state people, you know, we are going to start slitting throats on day one," said the Florida governor, whose anti-woke policies have received much criticism but has since doubled down on them.

DeSantis has been using such hostile language on the campaign trail to mirror that of top rival Donald Trump. The "slit throats" one is not particularly new either, as The Hill pointed out that DeSantis previously used the term during a radio show appearance.

The Florida governor has modeled his campaign after Trump's, though he continues to struggle against the former president. Some of his rhetoric is taken directly from Trump, with DeSantis moving further and further right to match the ex-POTUS's popularity with the right-wing conservative white base that the Republican Party currently has.

Ron DeSantis Is Not Facing Florida's Real Problems, Say Critics

As DeSantis rages on against "the woke mob," Disney, LGBTQ activists, and immigrants, critics have pointed out that Florida is facing a ton of problems while he is away in New Hampshire campaigning.

After his controversial immigration bill, DeSantis drove away the majority of Florida's immigrant population. This resulted in farms and construction sites going empty and creating a labor crisis. In addition, Florida is facing the highest inflation in the US, as well as a surge in leprosy.

"Come back to Florida to solve real problems, Ron DeSantis," said Democratic state Senate candidate Carlos Guillermo Smith.

He stated that DeSantis is not addressing Florida's problems as he should be since he is the governor. "It's about time that the governor come back to Florida, start working to solve these problems, and just quit the presidential campaign," said Guillermo Smith,

As he campaigns for president, though, the DeSantis campaign has run into some financial problems, with signs that it is in turmoil, including the recent firings of almost a dozen campaign workers. Reports indicated that DeSantis had been overspending, going on lavish private jet flights while on the campaign trail.

DeSantis spent $686,000 on travel expenses alone, and his payroll was over a million dollars.

Ron DeSantis Stays Defiant Amid Struggles

With his campaign finances in peril and himself struggling in the polls, DeSantis hit a "reset" button for his campaign. However, despite his struggles, DeSantis did not change things up that much and is still doing the same things as before the campaign reset.

DeSantis sat down with CNN's Jake Tapper, marking his first interview outside right-wing media. However, this was still shadowed by news of Trump's indictment.

"If I'm the nominee, we'll be able to focus on President Biden's failures, and I'll be able to articulate a positive vision for the future," the governor said in his CNN interview. "I don't think it serves us good to have a presidential election focused on what happened four years ago."
