Rafael Nadal is on track to recover in time for the 2014 U.S. Open, as recent tests showed that the tennis superstar's injured wrist is healing quickly, the Spanish Tennis Federation announced on Thursday.

Nadal sustained a right wrist injury during a practice session last month, which forced him to skip his title defense in two Masters 1000 events -- the Cincinnati Open and the Rogers Cup in Toronto.

The Spanish Tennis Federation revealed that Nadal, who is the defending U.S. Open champion, will likely make it into the Grand Slam tournament, but the second-ranked star is still scheduled to undergo several test over the next several days.

"Following a scan and clinical evaluation, his progress is on track, although he will still have tests from time to time," RFET posted on their official website via Daily Mail.

The 14-time Grand Slam champion, who is looking to bounce back from an early exit in the 2014 Wimbledon tennis tournament, also posted a photo showing him training alongside uncle and coach Toni Nadal. The image also shows Nadal wearing a split to support his injured wrist.

"Making the most of these days to continue training, always with desire and optimism," Rafael wrote.

Rafael defeated Novak Djokovic in last year's U.S. Open final in four sets and the 28-year-old wants to duplicate that feat at Flushing Meadows starting Aug. 25.

Toni Nadal also said earlier this week that the two-time U.S. Open champion is on pace to make it into the tournament, but conceded that an MRI a week before the tournament will decide whether or not Rafa will be in New York before the end of the month.

"Theoretically we can come, but we'll see. I guess a week before and we'll know if the injury is on track. Let's wait until the end. The date is no limit. When we are good we will compete, and if we are not well, we will not compete," said Toni Nadal.

Toni Nadal also expressed confidence that Rafa will perform well if he makes it into the tournament despite failing to participate in key tune-up events.
