Fans of "The Walking Dead" have been pushing for Daryl Dixon to get romantic with either Carol Peletier or Beth Greene, but could the character be more interested in men?

In a column answering fan letters in issue #130 of The Walking Dead comic books, creator Robert Kirkman (who also writes for and produces the AMC TV adaptation) discussed Daryl's sexuality.

"All I can say is that it's been discussed," Kirkman said, according to Comic Book. "We have very specific ideas about Daryl's sexuality (or the seeming lack thereof), and if there's ever a quiet period in the show where he's not consistently distracted by crossbowing. ... We'll tackle it in the show."

A fan also asked if AMC would let the character, who was created exclusively for the TV series and is played by Norman Reedus, be a homosexual.

"For the record, they absolutely would," Kirkman said in response.

Readers of the comic books compare Daryl to Jesus because of their toughness. Jesus is gay, leading some to believe that those behind the show could take the same route with Daryl.

During this year's San Diego Comic-Con, Emily Kinney, who plays Beth Greene, said she wants the relationship between her character and Reedus' to grow.

"I think they definitely have a certain connection that has grown from surviving together," she said. "They have gotten to know each other on a different level that's really special, whether its friendship or something else. It's a deeper relationship."

Recently, Tom Luse, "The Walking Dead" TV show executive producer, discussed the more complex settings that will be seen in Season 5.

"I think our journey this season, especially at the beginning, is going to show the scale of the world that we're living in in a way that we haven't done before," he said in an interview with the AMC TV blog. "That is the most interesting thing. We're showing many aspects of what has been going on for the last couple of years that we haven't had an opportunity to show before."

Season 5 of "The Walking Dead" begins on Oct. 12 on AMC.
