"The Walking Dead" fans have been complaining about the long wait for Season 5 of the AMC hit, but perhaps they should be more patient as executive producer Tom Luse says creating the show is a year-long job.

"I would say that it has become a 52 week a year job for us," Luse said in an interview with the AMC blog. "Sometimes we prepare the new season before the previous season is over. As we're traveling, we have to prepare new locations. Zombies do not provide lawn services or leaf blowers -- and the goal is to have our world look as if the world has been shut down for a couple of years -- so in a way, we're making a period film. We have to keep that world fresh for our audience."

In terms of production, Luse said he admires the show's style of constant change.

"Nothing ever stays the same very long on 'The Walking Dead,'" he said."You have to constantly adapt."

Adapting is not easy, however. Season 5 has brought new challenges for the producer as the drama aims to show viewers more of the world of the zombie apocalypse.

"I think our journey this season, especially at the beginning, is going to show the scale of the world that we're living in in a way that we haven't done before," Luse said. "That is the most interesting thing. We're showing many aspects of what has been going on for the last couple of years that we haven't had an opportunity to show before."

Earlier this month executive producer Gale Anne Hurd, who Yahoo reported will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from Stan Lee on Aug. 17, detailed Season 5's complicated new settings.

"We like the fact that we are going to be changing it up with urban settings, suburban settings," she told Zap2It. "There are going to be people that think going back into an urban setting is going to be very dangerous because we've seen that many urban settings are essentially the City of the Dead. I don't think the debate is over yet over what's a good idea and what isn't."

Season 5 of "The Walking Dead" begins on Oct. 12 on AMC.
