Did you pre-order your iPhone 6 yet? If not, you may be out of luck because the huge demand for the new iPhone exceeded Apple's supply and now some pre-orders are getting pushed back to October.

Apple announced that it had a "record number" of pre-orders for the new iPhone 6 and iPhone 6 Plus. Apple allowed pre-orders to begin Sept. 12. Monday morning they said already 4 million people had purchased the pre-order.

Apple will still be expecting heavy traffic at its retail stores this Friday when the official debut of the iPhone 6 occurs. Stores will be opening at 8 a.m. local time and phones will be offered at a first come, first served quantity to those who haven't pre-ordered the iPhone.

There will be extra supplies of the new iPhone according to Apple, but it is unclear how many extra units they will be offering at each store.

Apple is encouraging customers to get to stores as early as possible for their chance to secure an iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus.

Another option for customers hoping to get the latest iPhone would be to go through their wireless carrier. AT&T, Verizon, Sprint and T-Mobile stores will have an unknown quantity of the new phones available for customers, according to Apple.

AT&T is running low on the popular space gray color that most iPhone users prefer. The company's webpage lists a shipping estimate of 21-35 business days for that color. If you are an AT&T customer and can deal with a silver or gold iPhone, those will ship within 7-14 business days.

"This is our biggest iPhone pre-order launch day ever," AT&T CEO Glenn Lurie said.

Sprint's website is displaying the text "we'll do our best to get it to you by 9/19." Could they have more quantity then AT&T?

Verizon's pre-order stock is running low too. You may still be able to get a gold iPhone 6, but the other two colors are expected to be delayed.

This could be Apple's biggest product release in the company's existence so it is no surprise that the hype for the iPhone 6 and 6 Plus is so big.

Expect long lines and extreme excitement this Friday.
