Singers Jordin Sparks and Jason Derulo have split after about three years of dating.

According to US Weekly, the breakup has been difficult for both, and things like hectic schedules were an obstacle in their relationship.

HollywoodLife.com reports that it is Derulo who called off the relationship, and that it may not be as amicable as previously said.

"Jason keeps making hit song after hit song," a source said. "He keeps making money hand over first and that was a big strain on the relationship between the two and the main reason that he didn't marry her and the reason they broke up."

The source added that Derulo thought that if he married her and then they divorced that he knew he would lose half of his money. And if she had equal success, their relationship would have lasted.

Derulo spoke out and confirmed the split, but he said things were OK between him and Sparks.

"Everything is cool man," he said. "It's not a bad situation, it's not one of those kinds of things."

Derulo had written the song "Marry Me" for Sparks, and he explained that the song was saying that when the time was right for both of them, they would end up married.

At the beginning of August, Derulo said that he would have definitely proposed to Sparks when the time was right.

"I knew that pretty early on," he said. "I felt that when I was in the hospital with my neck injury...I felt different...I felt like I needed her in my world."

On Twitter, people began to speculate that the two broke up because someone must have cheated. So far Sparks has remained quiet about the subject, but according to her last tweet, she has been busy recording music.
