"7th Heaven" actress Sarah Goldberg recently died in her sleep from natural causes, the Chicago Sun-Times reports. Goldberg died at the age of 40.

Prior to her death, Goldberg worked as an actress appearing in several hit shows and movies including her first acting gig "My Best Friend's Wedding," "House," "CSI," "Judging Amy" and "Jurassic Park III."

The Chicago native later landed her most noted acting role as Sarah Glass Camden on the hit family series, "7th Heaven," where she appeared in 16 episodes from 2002 to 2006, TV Guide reports.

Goldberg was offered the role of Sarah Glass Camden after five months of auditioning, Goldberg's mother told the Chicago Sun-Times.

Goldberg's character, Sarah Glass Camden, was a medical student and the daughter of a rabbi, played by Richard Lewis. According to TV Guide, Sarah eventually went on to marry Matt Camden, played by Barry Watson, "and their romance was popular with the show's longtime fans."

"She would walk down the street here, or places in Wisconsin, and people would come up to her and say, 'You played the daughter'" of the rabbi, her mother recalled.

In addition to acting, Goldberg was also a scholar who earned her bachelor's degree in biology from Amherst College in 1996 "and had dreams of becoming a doctor before she started acting," claims TV Guide.

Goldberg's mother told the Chicago Sun-Times that Goldberg died peacefully in her sleep on Sept. 27 with "her computer in her lap, at the family cabin in Wisconsin."

"She went to sleep and didn't wake up," her mother said.

Although Goldberg's autopsy failed to determine her exact cause of death, Goldberg's family believes that heart complications may have caused Goldberg's death, the Chicago Sun-Times reports.

News of Goldberg's death comes right at the heels of the news that Goldberg's "7th Heaven" co-star, Stephen Collins is at the center of a pending child molestation case.
