Microsoft has finally unveiled two new tablets -- the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro, along with some much needed upgrades.

The Microsoft Surface 2, the new generation of the Surface RT, is more or less similar to its predecessor. It has since been upgraded to be thinner, lighter and faster compared to the RT though, as it claims on its website.

Probably the most noticeable changes that Microsoft has added to the tablet are improved battery life and a new processor. The Surface 2 now has longer battery life which they claim lasts for up to 10 hours. The second generation RT also now runs on "the super fast" NVIDIA Tegra 4 processor which allows for greater speed and better graphics.

Microsoft has also dedicated time to improving their built in Kickstand which now features two positions. Users of the Surface 2 can now enjoy using the tablet on their laps with the new deeper angle.

The Surface 2 comes in fingerprint-resisting silver magnesium case with reported improved cameras. More importantly, the tablet is priced $50 off the launching price of its predecessor at $449. Microsoft has also added in 200 GB of SkyDrive storage free for two years, under certain conditions.

The other tablet, the Surface Pro 2, has also been upgraded. Due to complaints in terms of the tablet's battery life, Microsoft has made drastic improvements and now claims about 60% better battery life.

The Surface Pro 2 is also sporting Haswell generation Intel chips, 8 gigabytes of low-power DDR RAM and a half terabyte SSD, says Alex Wilhelm of TechCrunch. The price for the Surface Pro 2 starts at $899.

According to Microsoft's website, pre-orders for the Surface 2 and the Surface Pro 2 will start soon. Though no certain date has been indicated, a report from the TechCrunch says that pre-orders will start tomorrow - September 25.

"Microsoft just confirmed that pre-orders for both tablets will begin tomorrow, and added that the devices would ultimately be available in 21 markets on October 22," the report said.
