After a slow start to the season, the San Francisco 49ers are starting to resemble the playoff caliber team they have been in recent years after traveling to St. Louis on Thursday and knocking down the Rams in primetime fashion.

49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick tossed two touchdown passes and receiver Anquan Boldin had five catches for 90 yards and a score. Running back Frank Gore emerged and easily reached the century mark for the first time this season with 153 rushing yards on 20 carries. Gore also broke free on a 34-yard touchdown score.

Perhaps the most impressive group of all, however, was the 49ers defense. After giving up 56 points in the last two games, the squad stepped up and held the Rams to only 11 points.

"We know the talent we have on this team," Kaepernick said. "We know what we're capable of."

The Rams let the game slip away after the team held an early lead. St. Louis held the lead into the second quarter, when the 49ers kicked into gear and scored 14 before the half. From that point on, San Francisco never looked back. The Rams couldn't keep up as the 49ers ran away with 21 points in the second half.

The Rams and 49ers will now have extra rest before their next matchups. The 49ers will be facing the Houston Texans in another primetime matchup on Sunday, Oct. 6, while the Rams will host the Jacksonville Jaguars in a 1 p.m. game on the same day.
