Actress Brooke Shields has released a new book about her mother, and not only does it reveal quite a bit about their unusual mother-daughter relationship, but also about Brooke's list of past loves.

Teri Shields passed away in 2012 from dementia-related illness at the age of 79. Brooke wrote a short obituary for her mother and former manager and sent it to The New York Times.

However, the newspaper instead ran another announcement, stating "Teri Shields, who began promoting her daughter, Brooke, as a child model and actress when she was an infant and allowed her to be cast as a child prostitute ... died on Wednesday in Manhattan."

The new version went on about how Teri had allegedly pimped out her 11-year-old daughter in "Pretty Baby," which featured a now infamous underage nude scene.

"Who the f**k did this guy think he was to write about a woman he never knew?" Brooke recalls thinking in the book..

To set the record straight, the former Calvin Klein model began writing about her mother's life. The end result was her newest title, "There Was a Little Girl," released Tuesday. Brooke's portrait of her mother showed a hard-drinking, hard-working Newark woman focused on making her little girl into a star.

In her teens, Brooke decided to remove her mother from her career management, and has since continued to act and be a spokesmodel to many different products. However, despite the rocky relationship they had when growing up, Brooke said there are many pleasant memories that she has of her time with Teri.

"I think the hardest part was reliving the happy memories," Shields told New York Post in an interview. "That's when you think the ending could be different, that there was hope -- and then you're struck with reality and think, 'What a shame.'"

Another aspect of Brooke's book includes her past boyfriends and how her mother added to her difficulties in relationships.

One revealing story in the memoir is that of the night she lost her virginity to actor Dean Cain when they were Princeton students.

"It should have been what I had wished for myself, but in an instant, guilt slapped me in the face," Shields, now 49, wrote. "Instead of giving in to what was a loving, and emotionally safe, relationship, and escaping into the most intimate and deserved moment, I began to cry deeply and silently ... I got so overwhelmed that I jumped out of my bed."

Brooke said her mother's demands on her daughter to remain chaste caused the sad feelings in her love life.
