Noah, a dog in Atlanta, died after taking a bullet from a road-raging gunman, saving his family's life Friday, according to KHON2.

Police said the German Shepherd saved the lives of the children, who were in the line of fire from the gunman that had followed the SUV they were riding inside, according to 11alive.com

The gunman followed the SUV into a strip mall, and a witness said a few minutes later the shooting started.

Children were in the back of the vehicle, and the bullets shot through the windows leaving shattered glass.

Witnesses said the dog took a bullet in order to save the passengers. The shooting was seen on video from a security camera. After Noah bravely defended his family, he walked behind a building and laid down before he died from his wounds.

"They were fired upon and their family was terrorized and they survived that only to find that their pet is now gone. It's sad for the whole family, especially the day after Thanksgiving," Atlanta Police Sgt. Gregory Lyon said, according to KHON2.

The altercation began when the gunman got into a verbal argument with Hobart Austin, according to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

He threatened to shoot Austin and began to do so. Austin wasn't hit, but the SUV, which had three children and a woman, was caught in the line of fire.

No other injuries were reported, and no arrests had been made as of Friday.

Atlanta police are still searching for the suspect, but the only description they have is that of his vehicle.

They are looking for a blue-gray Taurus, which is the vehicle described by the passenger of the vehicle who began the altercation, according to the New York Post.
