Leonardo Antonio Diaz Osorio, who was better known by his stage name Lione Diaz, was killed by a stray bullet on Jan. 1.

It was just a few minutes after the new year had started when the incident happened.

Diaz was waiting for his meal at a restaurant, and he was joined by his wife, 6-year-old daughter and siblings. He suddenly fell over, notes El Espectador.

"We hadn't even been here for 10 minutes," Diaz's brother told El Colombiano, according to El Espectador. "He was waiting to take the meat to his wife and daughter. He was sitting at the foot of the stove. That's when his cell phone rang, and he got up to take the call when all of a sudden he fell. We thought he had slipped, but when I went to help him, I saw the blood on his head."

Diaz was taken to a hospital, where surgery was performed, but he died minutes after the operation.

Diaz arrived in Medellin in 2012. He was looking to become successful with his band Takimpá, with whom he sang salsa, merengue and bachata.

Authorities do not know who is responsible for the shooting.

According to Minuto 30, police are offering a reward for more information on what is being called the area's first death of the year.

His last message on Facebook was about the new year.

"Today I want to lose myself a little so that I can reacquaint myself with myself," he said.

His Facebook page is filled with images the singer posted of himself while performing.

In November, the singer was grateful for his career, according to his social media page.

He shared a snippet of a conversation, where someone asked him how his musical aspirations were going.

Diaz said he looked at the person and said, "I am no longer trying; I am doing it seriously, and thanks to God, I am achieving it."
