Unsurprisingly, former "Saturday Night Live" funny girls and queens of snark Tina Fey and Amy Poehler ruled during NBC's live broadcast of the 2015 Golden Globe Awards on Sunday.

Per usual, the mighty duo delivered a spectacularly hilarious opening monologue, outdoing their previous hosting gigs for the Hollywood Foreign Press Association's big night. After a few forthright but facetious witticisms that Sunday's ceremony was "the 72nd and final Golden Globes," due to the fact that this is the last year in Fey and Poehler's three-year contract, the two began their full-scale assault with their own brand of clever and cutthroat insult humor.

Keeping up-to-date with pop culture and trending topics, the women launched into the subject of North Korea and Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg's "The Interview," which became a media frenzy after hackers threatened studios regarding the film's release, citing a fear that a possible war could ensue if the film were released. Fey and Poehler said North Korea's backlash against the movie forced "us all to pretend we wanted to see it."

Shortly thereafter, the ladies joked about Steve Carell's role as John Eleuthère du Pont in Bennett Miller's "Foxcatcher" and how the film's wig and makeup team took two hours to prep the actor and get him camera-ready.

"It took me three hours today to prepare for my role as a human woman," Fey quipped.

However, the best moments came later. Similar to previous years, the women ragged on Clooney.

"George Clooney married Amal Alamuddin this year," Fey said. "Amal is a human rights lawyer who worked on the Enron case, was an adviser to Kofi Annan regarding Syria, and was selected to a three-person U.N. commission investigating rules of war violations in the Gaza Strip. So tonight, her husband is getting a lifetime achievement award."

"Hollywood!" added Poehler.

Transgender activist Janet Mock called the gag "feminist gold."

This is not the first time the comics have made fun of Clooney and his love life, however. Last year, the ladies made another joke targeted at the once sought-after bachelor who had a tendency to date younger women.

"'Gravity' is nominated for best film," Fey said. "It's the story of how George Clooney would rather float away into space and die than spend one more minute with a woman his own age."

Clooney wasn't the only guest to get roasted. The belly laughs came at a cringe-worthy quip of the night, when the comediennes attacked stand-up legend Bill Cosby, who is currently the focus of a sexual assault scandal.

"In 'Into the Woods,' Cinderella runs from her prince, Rapunzel is thrown from a tower for her prince, and Sleeping Beauty just thought she was getting coffee with Bill Cosby," Poehler joked.
