A nine-year-old girl scout is still recuperating after being shot while going door-to-door selling cookies in her Indianapolis neighborhood.

The Indianapolis Star reports, Sinai Miller was hit in the leg by a stray bullet on Tuesday as she and her sisters prepared to walk the grounds of the housing complex where they reside to pitch their cookies.

"What did I do wrong?" the newspaper reports the A-and-B student wailed to her family as blood oozed from her wound. "Mama, mama, it hurt."

Authorities say fortunately the bullet missed all the girl's vital organs and she has since been released from a local hospital. Police said the source of the bullet remains unknown and they haven't indicated whether or not they have any suspects.

Investigators are asking anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers at 317-262-TIPS, adding that some potential witnesses have indicated seeing a person's arm dangling out the side of a SUV window just before the bullets started flying.

Shanita Miller told police she and her daughters were just inside their doorway when the shot rang out and she immediately tried to usher her kids to safety.

The Star reports the shooting is believed to be the first time a Girl Scout has ever been shot while involved in a cookie sales drive. Authorities insist it's absolutely the first time it has happened in Indianapolis.

Shanita Miller says the episode has left the family so scarred she and her boyfriend, Mark Chandler, are now considering moving their family out of the neighborhood.

"It hurts our heart that we have to sit up here and cry about this, but what steps are we supposed to take with this," Chandler said. "This just don't happen. It isn't supposed to happen."
