Lee Daniels–the creator of the hit FOX drama "Empire"–recently spoke with TMZ and revealed the show was inspired by the Kennedys.

"It's a little bit of my life, a lot of Motown," Daniels said. "It's a lot of Gamble and Huff, a lot of my imagination."

Daniels said the "Kennedy dynasty" inspired the creations of the show's Lyon dynasty and the lead character, Lucious Lyon, played by Terrence Howard.

Daniels said Lucious was inspired by Kennedy patriarch, Joe Kennedy.

"It's the American dream," Daniels said.

Since its premiere on Jan. 7, Lee Daniels' "Empire" has become the highest-rated series FOX network has had in years, Entertainment Weekly reports.

The show delves into the life of music mogul Lucious Lyon, his record label "Empire" and the family drama that erupts as his sons fight to become the next head of the company.

"Empire" continues to garner popularity for its enticing storyline, original music and star-studded cast.

Just recently, Daniels revealed to his 50,000-plus Instagram followers Academy award-winning actor Denzel Washington is in talks with him to guest star on the show.

Daniels shared a photo of himself and Washington at dinner discussing his possible appearance on the show. Fans immediately flocked to Daniels' Instagram page to express their excitement over the news.

In addition to Washington, other celebrities that have been confirmed to guest star on the show include Lenny Kravitz, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Mariah Carey, Snoop Dogg, Naomi Campbell, Raven-Symoné, Macy Gray, Courtney Love and Foxy Brown. The legendary Patti LaBelle is also a confirmed guest star on "Empire."

Daniels shared the news of LaBelle's appearance on Instagram and posted a photo of himself and the legendary singer smiling over the news.
