NBA 2K14 was already established as the premier - and the only - key NBA video game on the market after NBA Live took some time off, but this year both games are back on the market together again.

As great as that sounds for competition, it doesn't look like that will mean much.

All early indications are pointing towards complete disappointment for the NBA Live game that once enjoyed great success on older game consoles in the early 2000s. But ever since NBA 2K came through and essentially kicked its competition to the curb, NBA Live has had a difficult time restarting and now the game has fallen so far behind it's not even close.

The graphics on NBA Live this year are light years behind that of NBA 2K14, which features some of the sharpest and realistic images of our favorite NBA stars we've ever seen.

IGN's Stan McCaffrey wrote a game review of NBA Live and he probably wishes he didn't even bother. His review echoes every concern and complaint that has floated around on the web ever since NBA Live announced that it would return. The biggest question of whether it would come close to matching its rival is so obvious at this point that its not even worth comparing the two any further.

"NBA Live 14 sinks lower than I ever thought this once-proud series could go," he wrote. "Making the totally fair comparison to NBA 2K14 would be like LeBron James playing a pickup game against an arthritic giraffe. But even taken in isolation, the resurrected NBA Live is a mess of a hoops sim both in your hands and in your eyes that wouldn't even make the D-League All-Star team."
