Real Madrid are reportedly open to selling superstar forward Cristiano Ronaldo to Manchester United, who have long been linked to the Portugal international over the past several months.

Ronaldo has a contract with Real Madrid until after the 2018 season, but the Spanish powerhouse club will reportedly consider selling the forward to another team if the right offer comes along, Sport-English reported.

Real Madrid are reportedly unhappy with the way Ronaldo has been performing with the club as of late. Analysts also believe the three-time Ballon d'Or winner is unhappy at Bernabeu because he is being poorly treated by their fans. Because of these factors, Real Madrid might eventually listen to offers for their prized player.

Several clubs are reportedly willing to spend to strike a lucrative deal to acquire Ronaldo, including Manchester United, Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City. A club will have to pay 71.1 million pounds to acquire Ronaldo.

But among the interested teams, Manchester United are considered favorites as Ronaldo hinted that he would love to return to Old Trafford, where he played from 2003 to 2009 before moving to Real Madrid.

Former Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson reportedly met with Ronaldo last week following Real Madrid's loss to Schalke in the Round of 16 of the UEFA Champions League with most analysts saying that Ferguson is trying to persuade the Portuguese to return to Old Trafford.

Ferguson and Ronaldo still have a close relationship despite parting ways in 2009. The former Manchester United boss is reportedly one of the reasons why Ronaldo will consider returning to his former club.

On the other hand, Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly informed agent Jorge Mendes that they are also willing to break the bank in the event Ronaldo and Real Madrid decide to part ways. Mendes has developed a good working relationship with PSG over the past several years.

Aside from making a move to another top-tier club in Europe, Grant Wahl of Sports Illustrated also reported that Ronaldo will not sign a new deal with Real Madrid in the event the club manages to keep him until 2018.

Citing sources close to Ronaldo, the 30-year-old forward is reportedly planning to move to the United States and play in the Major League Soccer once his contract runs out in 2018. Sources added that Ronaldo will consider signing with a team based in Miami, Los Angeles or New York.
